KOCHI: A cabin crew of AI was detained at the Cochin Int’l Airport on Wednesday for allegedly smuggling 1.4kgs gold, the Customs Preventive Commissionerate said. The crew of the Bahrain-Kozhikode- Kochi flight as per inputs wrapped up gold under his sleeves.
Identified as Shafi, a resident of Wayanad was held on a tip-off received. As per reports, he intended to evade security checks and smuggle the gold wrapped around his hands. A photo of the crew has also been making rounds on the internet.
Further interrogation is underway in the matter, the officials noted.
The airline, on the matter, said that the crew member has been suspended with immediate effect and asserted that the airline had zero tolerance for such behavior. The airline said it would take stringent action on the accused staff including termination of service following receipt of the report from the authorities.
