SUKMA: A fierce firing was reported in the Naxal-dominated Sukma district in CG on Thursday morning, an official said. As per reports, an encounter broke out between a joint team of CRPF and STF and the 508th Batallion of CoBRA near the Kistaram PS area of the district when the security personnel launched a combing operation.

The exchange of fire is said to have continued for 45 minutes in which 5-6 naxals were injured and a huge cache of explosives like barrel grenades was recovered. Search operations are underway from the Dabbamarka camp towards Sakler.

Sukma SP confirmed the news of the Naxals injured and added that no casualties were reported by the posted security personnel. He added that the injured Naxals were seen escaping for whom a search has been launched. “A joint team of the Special Task Force (STF) and 208th battalion of Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) of the CRPF had launched the operation from Dabbamarka camp towards Sakler when the exchange of fire took place at around 9 am,” Sukma Superintendent of Police Sunil Sharma told.

The security personnel launched the anti-naxal operation upon receiving a tip-off on the movement of Naxals in that area.
