BHOPAL: The translocation of a tiger and two tigresses to Madhav National Park (MNP) in the Shivpuri district of MP, which is devoid of big cats on March 10th an official communique said on Monday.
“A tiger and two tigresses from different tiger reserves of MP will be shifted to Madhav National Park, which is spread over an area of more than 350 sq km. The shifting will start from March 10,” Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Subharanjan Sen told a news reporter.
Shivpuri borders Sheopur district which houses KNP- home to Cheetas brought from South Africa under the ambitious re-introduction project.
Earlier the MP forest department successfully rehabilitated the big cats in n the Panna Tiger Reserve and the Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary in Sagar.
According to Forest officials, Madhav National Park has a good prey base for big cats and the revival program was cleared by the Centre.
The striped big cats would be most probably picked up from Panna, Satpura, and Bandhavgarh tiger reserves for their translocation to the Madhav National Park, they added.
As per sources, the cats will be first quarantined before being released into the wild. Three teams will be formed to keep an eye on the big cats that will be radio-collared before being released from the enclosures.
Tigers were fairly seen in the Madhav National Park in 1970. According to reports, tigers from Rajasthan roamed around Madhav National Park for some time in 2010-12. A decline in the number of wild cats has been attributed to the hunting by royals.
