Rajnandgaon: A Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) jawan allegedly committed suicide on Monday night with his service rifle at a camp in Rajnandgaon district of the state.
Rajnandgaon district superintendent of police (SP) Jitendra Shukla told Lalluram that the deceased CAF jawan has been identified as Abdul Shahid Khan. He was posted as hawaldar (sergent) at 21 battalion of CAF base camp in Gatapar police station limits of the district. The deceased CAF jawan hails from Jhansi district in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
The incident took place on Monday night, Khan shot himself with his service rifle inside his barrack whereas his other colleague jawans were asleep.
On hearing the gunshot, other CAF jawans woke up and they found Khan in pool of blood. The body of deceased CAF jawan has been sent to hospital for autopsy.
Preliminary investigation suggested that Khan, who was posted in the Ghoghara village-based camp, was very promising CAF jawan and he did not have any dispute with any other colleague jawans in the camp.
The reason behind committing suicide by the CAF jawan is awaited.
Police have lodged cases under relevant sections of IPC and further investigation is underway.
It needs to be mentioned that Chhattisgarh police had launched “Spandan Campaign” to protect the paramilitary personnel and cops from depression and stress earlier this month. Earlier on June 7, a border security force (BSF) personnel had allegedly committed suicide by shot himself in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh.
