MUMBAI: The Indian Rupee on Tuesday plunged by 9 paise to close at 82.82 (provisional) against the US dollar amidst a muted trend in domestic equities.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 82.76 against the American Dollar and finally settled for the day at 82.82 (provisional), registering a fall of 9 paise over its previous close of 82.73.

During the session, the domestic unit witnessed an intra-day high of 82.73 and a low of 82.83 against the American dollar.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.12 per cent higher at 103.98. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures declined 0.49 per cent to USD 83.66 per barrel.

Precious metal prices also plunged in the national capital. Gold price declined Rs 371 to Rs 56,100 per 10 grams while Silver fell by Rs 230 to Rs 65,742 per kg.
