NEW DELHI: Former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has challenged the SCs move to allot the Shiv Sena name and symbol to his rival and successor Eknath Shinde.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud for an early listing of the Thackeray-led Sena faction’s request.
The court however, refused to address the issue today and instructed the Thackeray faction lawyer to mention it tommorow. The rule applies equally to all, whether left, right or centre. Come tomorrow through proper process,” the bench said.
The EC on Friday recognized the faction led by Mr Shinde as the real Shiv Sena and ordered allocation of the “bow and arrow” poll symbol to it.
This move by the apex court jolted the rival camp led by Uddhav Thackeray, whose father Bal Thackeray founded the outfit in 1966.
The Shinde Group has already filed a Caveat application to the Supreme Court. Notably, a Caveat application is filed by a litigant to ensure that no adverse order is passed against him or her without being heard.
