DELHI: After the increasing number of coronavirus cases in Delhi, the Home Minister, Amit Shah announced various measures to tackle coronavirus in the capital. The Home Minister has increased the conduction of tests in Delhi along with the increasing availability of beds for the patients dealing with the novel coronavirus. He has announced that 500 converted rail coaches would be provided to add 8000 beds; this would make the bed available to 60% of the patients with the coronavirus.
The decision was taken just after a day PM Modi held a meeting where he discussed the pandemic and the measures to deal with the same. The meeting was chaired by the Home Minister, Amit Shah, Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, Lt Governor, Anil Biajal and Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan. The meeting focused on the measures to deal with the pandemic in Delhi has been the record of the third state dealing with the highest number of coronavirus. Shah expressed that under NITI Aayog member, VK Paul, the committee would work to make the availability of beds for 60% of the COVID-19 patients.
Also, home to home surveillance would be conducted in the containment zones that would help to form contact mapping. For convenience, the residential would be asked to download the Aarogya Setu app. The COVID-19 testing would be doubled by the next week to check the rapid transmission of the disease. Additionally, to spread the guidelines at the lower level, the best doctors from reputed hospitals such as AIIMS would be recommended and these doctors would communicate to the minor hospitals and clinics at the ground levels. A helpline number has been generated for easier communication. Shah stated that 5 senior officers from the central government have been deployed to fight the pandemic.
A team of doctors from the health departments of the Central and Delhi Government would visit all the COVID-19 hospitals in the state. They are expected to submit a report on the infrastructure and preparedness of the treatment. All the necessary resources such as oxygen cylinders, ventilators and so on would be provided.
The Supreme Court has alleged that the state government has been incapable of handling the dead bodies of COVID-19 patients. Currently, Delhi has recorded 24032 active cases and 1327 deaths.
