New Delhi: PM Modi inaugurated the year-long celebrations commemorating the 200th birth anniversary of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium today in New Delhi. The celebration began when the prime minister performed puja and yagna followed by the inauguration of the first completed section of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Sohna-Dausa.

Tweeting a video from the celebration, PM Modi bowed respects towards Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati ji.

The 246-kilometer stretch will benefit the people traveling from Delhi to Jaipur as the travel time will be reduced by over an hour. This will boost the economic opportunities in the entire region. As PM Modi proceeded to Rajasthan, he laid the foundation stone for the road development projects worth over Rs. 18000 crores.

This visit of PM Modi ahead of the Rajasthan elections is seen as an opportunity for BJP to gather votes from Gujjar-Meena belt. The two rival communities form a crucial vote bank and their votes were considerably favored towards Congress since the last election.
