MUMBAI: The Indian Rupee rose by 34 paise to close at 81.86 (provisional) against the US currency on Friday amidst rebounding domestic equities and easing crude oil prices.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 82.15 against the American currency and finally settled at 81.86 against the greenback, registering a gain of 34 paise over its previous close of 82.20. During the trading session, the rupee also touched a low of 82.31 against the dollar.

The dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, declined 0.12 per cent to 101.63. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures advanced 0.39 per cent to USD 82.49 per barrel.

Meanwhile, Gold price tumbled Rs 681 to Rs 57,929 per 10 grams. Silver also plunged Rs 2,045 to Rs 70,335 per kilogram.
