BROVARY, KYIV:16 were killed in a helicopter crash near a kindergarten in Brovary near Kyiv, Ukraine officials said on Wednesday. Emergency services rushed to the scene, a presidential aide said and checks were being made on the casualties as locals confirmed casualties.

Two children were among the dead and 10 of them were in the hospital, according to Ihor Klymenko, chief of Ukraine’s National Police. Nine of those killed were aboard the emergency services helicopter that crashed in Kyiv’s eastern suburb. 22 total were injured including children.

A video of the crash has been making rounds on the internet, where cries could be heard at the scene which was consumed by fire.

“We are finding out information about casualties and the circumstances,” the deputy head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, wrote on the Telegram messaging app, as per media reports.

The crash occurred at 8 AM local time. People in the vicinity of the crash were immediately evacuated and firefighters were deployed. Footages showed fire engulfing the residential tower block, which has the nursery at its center, as panicked residents fled the area.
