MUMBAI: The Indian Rupee on Tuesday depreciated by 19 paise closing at 81.77 provisionally against the US Dollar.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 81.79 against the greenback, then lost ground and fell to an intra-day low of 81.89.

In the opening session on Monday, the rupee had settled at 81.58 against the US dollar.

The dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.19 percent higher at 102.40. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures advanced 0.46 percent to USD 84.85 per barrel.

Meanwhile, Gold fell by Rs 130 to Rs 56,680 per 10 grams in the national capital. Silver also declined by Rs 232 to Rs 69,793 per Kg.
