SAN FRANCISO: Abiding by his promise, Musk agreed to resign from his post as poll results didn’t favour him continue as the CEO of the microblogging platform.

“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams,” Musk wrote on Twitter.

The tweet came in response to the poll results of a question where Musk had asked netizens to vote if he should step down as the CEO. Twitter users decisively voted for him to step down in the poll launched on Sunday evening.

Roughly 20 minutes after he posed the question, as the ‘yes’ vote edged ahead, he added, “As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it.” Responding to a comment, he said, “The question is not finding a CEO, the question is finding a CEO who can keep Twitter alive.”He added, “No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive. There is no successor.”

Tesla stocks have been suffering and Musk’ fell to the second position in the Forbes richest 10 list as his wealth has been drained in the pursuit of acquiring the microblogging platform. Eversince the takeover, he has been facing a deluge of criticism. His first move after the takeover was a mass lay off where more than 7,500 employees were fired as Musk claimed the company was as the brink of an economic collapse or bankcruptcy.

In its recent developement, the platform launched a slew of verification badges for account belonging to govt officials to private accounts.
