NEW DELHI: A 17-year-old girl in Southwest Delhi’s Dwarka was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital for grievous injuries following an acid attack at 7:30 AM today morning. According to the police, the girl has named two persons who could be responsible for the attack, one of whom has been detained, the DCP added. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harsha Vardhan also said that the girl is currently stable. The Delhi police have detained one person and initiated the probe.
The incident came to the fore after the police received a PCR call at 9 AM. The police then extracted the CCTV footage of the area where two girls are seen walking by the roadside when a bike slows down and the pillion spills a liquid substance on one of the girls.
On being asked if her daughter complained about harassment by anyone, the father of the victim denied having knowledge of any such incident and mentioned that her sister would accompany her everywhere. As per information from the father, the two girls- sisters would go to school together in Metro.
Taking cognizance of the matter, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal hit out at the government and demanded a complete ban on the retail sale of acid. “Acid was thrown at a schoolgirl near Dwarka. Our team is reaching the hospital to help the victim. Will get justice for the daughter. The Delhi Commission for Women has been fighting for years to ban acid in the country. When will the governments wake up?” she tweeted.
