NEW DELHI: Reports hint Air India is close to placing a historic order of as many as 500 jetliners worth billions from Airbus and Boeing. The move comes as the airline carves out the revival under the Tata Group conglomerate, industry sources said on Sunday.

The source on condition of anonymity added that as many as 400 narrow-body jets and over 100 wide bodies including Airbus A350s and Boeing 787s and 777s.

Neither Tata’s nor the aircraft authorities Airbus and Boeing responded to the comments immediately.
