America: A top US official has made a big statement regarding Indo-US relations. White House Asia Coordinator Kurt Campbell said that diplomatic relations between India and the US should not be based only on mutual concern about China, but also on a deep understanding of the synergy between the two countries. He also said that India and the US have overcome many hurdles in the last two decades and have worked in many areas to build better bilateral relations.
Speaking at an event at The Aspen Institute in Washington, he said, “If you look at the last twenty years, the amount of hurdles that we have surmounted and the depth of engagement on our two sides is remarkable. And is not simply built on anxiety around China. It is a deeper understanding of the synergies between the (two) societies. Indian diaspora is a powerful connection.”
Campbell underlined the importance of the India-US partnership, saying that no bilateral relationship has grown deeper and stronger than the one between the two countries in the past 20 years. He described relations with India as “the most important for the US in the 21st century” and called for a greater ability to build relationships with people and technology.
The White House Asia coordinator also called for greater cooperation between the two democracies, saying that both sides should have some ambition. “We should look at things we can do together whether, in space, education, climate or technology and really move in that direction,” he said further.
