Twitter Bans COVID-19 Misinformation Policy; Banned Accounts Reactivation Process Underway

Twitter in its latest move has banned a policy aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19 misinformation on its platform raising concerns among health and media experts over the effect on the efforts to combat the still spreading virus. The move was announced by the comes as it formulates its content moderation policy.

The announcement dated Nov 23 came that came through a notice on the social media website came to the notice alert users on Monday night.

Effective November 23, 2022, Twitter is no longer enforcing the Covid-19 misleading information policy.”

“This policy was used to silence people across the world who questioned the media narrative surrounding the virus and treatment options,” tweeted Dr. Simone Gold, a physician and leading purveyor of Covid-19 misinformation. “A win for free speech and medical freedom!”

Meanwhile, reports hint the once widely used microblogging platform appears to be reviving banned accounts as part of Musk’s amnesty’. Sources state that process to re-activate the 62,000 banned accounts that have more than 10,000 followers each.

There have so far been no replies about the developments being reported ever since Musk laid off thousands of employees.

Musk has already unbanned Twitter accounts since he took over Twitter at the end of October, including those belonging to former US President Donald Trump, rapper Kanye West, and kickboxer Andrew Tate.
