Marrakech, Morocco: Making India proud globally, actor Ranveer Singh has managed to bag the Etoile d’Or Award at Marrakech. The actor also performed at the opening ceremony of the Marrakech International Film Festival and took to the stage with an impromptu rap from his popular movie Gully Boy. He was full of energy and enthusiasm while performing on stage and people were seen cheering for him loudly.
On winning the award, and joining the legacy of Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachan, and Aamir Khan who also received the Etoile d’Or Award previously, Ranveer expressed gratitude. In his acceptance speech after receiving the award, Ranveer said, “This is the darkest period. When I look at the world around me, I see all sorts of pain and suffering. I feel that in my capacity as an entertainer, the best thing I can do is lighten people’s burden.”
Later, he also visited Jemaa El Fna Square where his movie Bajirao Mastani was screened. He entertained the crowd there and once again danced to a rap from Gully Boy. He took the mike and said, “You put me on a stage and give me a mike, and I feel compelled to sing you a song, or do you a dance, or show you a movie, or tell you a story,
Notably, the Marrakech International Film Festival did not happen for two years because of the pandemic. This is the 1st year that it is run after the year 2019. The festival will run from Nov 11 to 19 and will be hosted by Nabila Kilani. In 2012, the festival marked 100 years of Indian cinema by running a special sidebar for Bollywood movies.
