Andheri: Counting of votes is currently under process for the by-election to seven assembly constituencies in 6 Indian states. Polling was held in Mokama and Gopalgank constitutecies of Bihar, Adampur of Haryana, Andheri (East) of Maharashtra, Gola Gokarannah of UP, and Dhamnagar of Odisha on November 3. Among 7 seats where bypolls were held, BJP had three seats, Congress two while the Shiv Sena and RJD had one each.
BJP is leading in four constituencies, while RJD is poised to win Bihar’s Mokama seat. Most seats witnessed a fierce contest between the BJP and regional parties such as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Samajwadi Party (SP), and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
The bypoll in Adampur was necessitated after former sitting MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi had resigned from Vidhan Sabha in August to switch from Congress to BJP. The Mokama seat in Bihar was left vacant after the sitting MLA, Anant Singh was dismissed due to a conviction in criminal case, while Sena MLA Ramesh Latke’s demise left Andheri East’s seat vacant.
