NEW DELHI: The partial solar eclipse of this year will begin around 4 pm in India today. The visibility of this partial solar eclipse will be between 40% and 50%. In some parts of the country, there are fewer chances of seeing it. The solar eclipse will be visible from most parts of the country except the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and some parts of North-East India. The Surya Grahan will be visible from parts of Europe, Northern Africa and large parts of Western and Central Asia. Excluding the northeastern parts of the country, India will be able to witness the celestial phenomenon whose duration varies from location to location.

In a press release, the Ministry of Earth Science has urged not to view the eclipsed Sun with naked eye, even for a brief period of time. It states that the obscuration of the Sun will be approximately 40-50 percent at the time of the maximum eclipse in north-western parts of India.

Here what NASA say’s, “Except during the brief total phase of a total solar eclipse, when the Moon completely blocks the Sun’s bright face, it is not safe to look directly at the Sun without specialized eye protection for solar viewing. Viewing any part of the bright Sun through a camera lens, binoculars, or a telescope without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the front of the optics will instantly cause severe eye injury.”
