CHINA: To prevent the second wave of coronavirus outbreak, the epicenter of covid_19, Wuhan conducted more than 6.5 million novel coronavirus tests in 9 days, according to state media.
Wuhan’s citywide nucleic acid testing drive came after six new cases emerged in a residential community earlier this month.
According to the latest figures released by the Wuhan municipal health commission, On 14th May, Wuhan started a campaign to expand nucleic acid testing as to determine the asymptomatic people. The mass testing identified 198 asymptomatic cases so far — people who carry the virus but do not show symptoms.
Notably, The central Chinese city of Wuhan said early Monday that from May 15 to May 23, it had collected coronavirus swab tests from more than 9 million of its 11 million people, local media reported.
Nucleic acid testing is a molecular technique for screening blood donations to reduce the risk of transfusion transmitted infections. where as swab testing or RT-PCR testing is a testing for COVID-19 involves inserting a 6-inch long swab (like a long Q-tip) into the cavity between the nose and mouth (nasopharyngeal swab) for 15 seconds and rotating it several times.
As of Monday, a total of 82,992 confirmed Covid-19 cases have been reported on the mainland with 4,634 fatalities
The novel coronavirus has affected 213 countries and territories around the world, The US, Russia, Brazil and several European countries are currently the hardest hit countries in the world.
The pandemic has killed nearly 345,000 people worldwide, with more than 5.46 million confirmed cases and recoveries exceeding 2.19 million, according to figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University of the US.
