Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) Patron and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away today morning. Yadav died after spending several days in the ICU of Medanta hospital in Gurugram, where he was admitted for urinary infection, blood pressure problem, as his condition remained critical.

Confirming the news, his son Akhilesh Yadav tweeted, “my respected father and everyone’s leader is no more- Shri Akhilesh Yadav”.

Soon after PM Modi tweeted his condolences, “I had many interactions with Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji when we served as Chief Ministers of our respective states. The close association continued and I always look forward to hearing his views. His demise pains me. Condolences to his family and lakhs of supporters. Om Shanti”.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was born on November 22, 1939 and was the supremo of the Samajwadi party. He was a member of Lok Sabha, representing Mainpuri constituency of Uttar Pradesh and three-time Uttar Pradesh chief minister. he emerged as a strong socialist leader and rose in UP politics in a period of intense social and political ferment after 1970s.
