Lucknow: School holiday has been declared today for children up to class 12 by the district administration in many parts of Uttar Pradesh owing to the heavy downpour warning by the weather department. Schools shall remain shut in Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, and Agra. Sources reveal that rainfall has already claimed five lives in Uttar Pradesh so far.
Several states in India have received torrential rainfall over the weekend, leading to waterlogging and traffic woes. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall is expected to continue over Uttarakhand, West Madhya Pradesh, and eastern Rajasthan over the next two days.
The national capital too witnessed a seemingly ceaseless spell of rainfall with temperature brought down to 20.8 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature 23.4 degrees Celsius-the lowest gap since 1969. Udaipur, Rajasthan also faced sudden change of weather with several parts of the city witnessing huge downpour. IMD also sounded a yellow alert for parts of central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and over Konkan till Wednesday.
In eastern regions, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim witness widespread moderate rainfall with isolated patches of very heavy rainfall. Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
