New Delhi: Amid a raging political crisis in Rajasthan and with Congress infighting at its peak, sources report Gehlot is out of the race. At present, senior party leaders KC Venugopal, Digvijaya Singh and Mallikarjun Kharge are running for Congress’s top leadership.
“He (Ashok Gehlot) is out of the Congress presidential race. There will be other leaders who will file the nomination before September 30. Mukul Wasnik, Mallikarjun Kharge, Digvijaya Singh, KC Venugopal in the race,” a Congress leader said.
Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi has asked for a written report, the AICC in charge Ajay Maken said who briefed the senior leader. “She has sought a written report. It is unfortunate that Rajasthan CLP meeting could not take place,” he said. He further termed the actions of Gehlot’s loyalists as ‘undisciplined.’
Earlier today, Ajay Maken attacked the Ashok Gehlot camp for pushing for a conditional resolution, terming it conflict of interest. The AICC observer said that the act of calling a parallel meeting while a CLP meet was already planned is “prima facie indiscipline.” Talking to reporters in Jaipur, Maken said that last night, as representatives of the Gehlot camp MLAs, ministers Shanti Dhariwal, Mahesh Joshi and Pratap Singh Khachariyawas met him and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and kept three conditions.
