Bhopal: In view of the rising number of Lumpy skin disease cases across the state, CM Chauhan chaired a high-level cabinet meeting on 21 September.

“The situation is alarming. We need to combat the outbreak with the same seriousness as we fought Covid pandemic,” Chouhan said in the meeting. At the meeting, which was attended by field officials of the animal husbandry department, Chouhan directed an accelerated pace of vaccination of cattle. He also ordered the formation of a state disease control room, accessible by phone. 

As of Sept 21, 7 cases of the LSD were detected in the Shivpuri region of MP according to Dr MC Tamori, Deputy Director of the Animal Department. It is further learnt that five of them have been transferred to the Bhopal lab for confirmation.

In MP alone over 7,686 cattle are said to have been infected with the viral disease. Around 5,432 cattle recuperated while 101 succumbed to the virus in 12 districts the data updated by the state animal husbandry dept said. The 101 deaths comprised of 17 from Khandwa, 15 each in Mandsaur and Neemuch, 13 in Betul, 10 each in Burhanpur and Ujjain and seven each in Ratlam and Alirajpur.

Pan India around 67,000 cattle have died of LSD since July. The disease is prevalent mostly across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.
