Mumbai: The Indian currency on Tuesday stood strong against the dollar at a two-decade high.

At the interbank forex exchange, the rupee opened at 79.70 against the greenback. It witnessed an intra-day high of 79.58 and a low of 79.77 during the session. The domestic unit finally closed at 79.74 up by 7 paise from its previous close of 79.81 on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Gold price roses by Rs 24 to Rs 49,766 per 10 grams in the national capital against Rs 49,742 per 10 grams the previous day.

The silver in contrast declined by RS 222 to Rs 57,192 per kg from Rs 57,414 per kg in the previous trade.
