New Delhi: The Supreme Court today suggested that the central government should create a web portal containing the details of the foreign universities where the Ukraine returnee Indian medical students can complete their courses as per the academic mobility program. The program shall be approved by National Medical Commission.
A bench comprising of Justices Hemant Gupta and Sudhanshu Dhulia suggested that there should a web portal, a transparent system with details of the fees and number of seats in the alternative foreign universities that are compatible.
Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta said that he is not taking an adversarial stand. Time has been allotted to the central government to get instructions on the suggestions of the bench. The case has now been adjourned till next Friday, September 23.
A batch of students who have returned from war struck Ukraine have filed a petition seeking permission to complete their medical education in India. The bench orally observed that while India cannot accommodate more than 20,000 petitioner students, the government can use its resources and help them choose the compatible foreign universities.
