Washington: US President Joe Biden said he is determined to ban assault weapons in America, amid the increasing gun violence in the country, while delivering remarks on the Safer America Plan in Pennsylvania.

President Biden also took to his Twitter account and wrote,”I am determined to ban assault weapons in this country. I did it once before, and we will do it again”.

Biden emphasized that Safer America Plan will strengthen public safety by investing in effective community policing. “Folks turn on the news and see kids being gunned down in schools, their neighbor losing loved ones to fentanyl, and violence walking our streets”, said Biden. Notably, Congress did pass a 10-year ban on assault weapons in 1994.

The 79-year-old used his remarks in the swing state to continue to pressure Congress to revive the long-expired federal ban on assault-style weapons, arguing there was no rationale for such weapons. Further, he went on to defend the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FDI) after the agency backlashed in the wake of the raid on former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
