Ace Indian shuttler Sania Nehwal looses to World No.1 Akane Yamugachi. The reigning world champion perseveres and wins, 21-9, 21-17.

India had a disappointing start, however, Kidambi Srikanth notched an excellent win over Lee Zii Jia. Kidambi swept past World No. 4 Malaysian shuttler Lee Zii Jia in straight games, 22-20, 23-21 to enter the next round. Srikanth, who was struggling with form at the CWG and the World Championships, came in blazing all guns against the former All England champion and stormed into the pre-quarters.

It is India’s second World Championship medal in any doubles event, the first medal in World Championship by India was bagged by Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa who claimed bronze in the 2011 women’s doubles
