Islamabad: Heavy monsoon rains have caused devastating floods in both the north and the south of Pakistan, affecting more than 30 million people and killing more than 1000. On Sunday, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan asked for financial help to deal with ‘overwhelming’ floods. He further added that international financial institutions like International Monetary Fund would take the economic fallout into account.
“Grateful for President Emmanuel Macron’s message of support for the people faced with devastating floods. We appreciate France’s solidarity and offer of help for the affected people in this hour of need”, tweeted Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s Prime Minister.
“We need supplies, we need medicine, and please rebuild the bridge, we are left with nothing now”, read the contents of the handwritten note of villagers. Hundreds of people are stranded across the river in the Manoor valley of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province after a flash flood hit the region on Friday, destroying at least ten bridges and dozens of buildings. Flash floods swept away the only concrete bridge there.
