Hyderabad: The Friday prayers went smoothly and no protests were witnessed in areas close to Charminar, police said on Friday.

On Thursday, the AIMIM MP urged the local citizens to ensure peaceful Prayers and said that their “biggest demand” of getting the BJP MLA detained and suspended over his remarks on Prophet Mohammad has been fulfilled.

“I also urge all of you to not raise any such slogans after the Friday prayers, which may hamper the country`s harmony… Let peace prevail,” Owaisi said in a press conference in Hyderabad. “Our biggest demand – of getting him arrested – has been fulfilled under PD Act. I urge all to ensure peaceful Friday prayers tomorrow,” he added.

Tension prevailed in the parts of the Old City late on Wednesday night with dozens of protesters converging at the Asha Talkies road and raising slogans against the BJP’s suspended legislator T. Raja Singh’s objectionable comments about Prophet Muhammed.

Raja Singh was re arrested for the second time in two days on Thursday under the Preventive Detention Act (PD Act) for his provocative video on You Tube. He is currently lodged in Central Prison, Cheriapally,
