Pakistan: Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, applied for pre-arrest bail before the Islamabad High Court on Monday. The move comes a day after he was charged with violating the Anti-Terrorism Act for making threats against the police, judiciary, and other state institutions at a rally in Islamabad on Saturday.

A petition is submitted on his behalf to the court by lawyers Babar Awan and Faisal Chaudhry, that stated Mr Khan was “a target of the ruling PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement) for his fearless criticism and extremely bold and blunt stance against corruption and corrupt politicians.” The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police registered a fake and frivolous charge against him at the request of the current government in order to go forward with this malicious agenda, the statement continued.

At the Islamabad Margalla Police Station, a case was filed against Mr. Khan. According to the FIR made he has”terrorized and threatened top police officials and a respected woman additional sessions judge”.  During his speech, Imran Khan attempted to prevent them from carrying out their duties and forbid them from taking any action against anyone associated with his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf party (PTI).

According to the report, Mr. Khan’s statement caused the nation, the judiciary, and the police to feel uneasy. He threatened to take legal action against senior police officers, a female magistrate, the Pakistani Election Commission, and political rivals. Because of the punishment is given out to Mr. Khan’s aide Shahbaz Gill, who was detained last week on sedition-related allegations.
