Himachal Pradesh: Today Anand Sharma, a senior leader of the Congress party, resigned from his position as the party’s state steering committee chairman. Sources claim that Sharma wrote a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi saying that his self-respect is “non-negotiable” and with this resigned from the position. Anand Sharma in the letter complained to the Congress leader about being ignored during the consultation process and stated that he felt disrespected because he was neither consulted nor invited to any party meetings. Nevertheless, he assured Soniya Gandhi that he will still advocate for the party candidates in the state.
A few days ago, Ghulam Nabi Azad, another G23 group leader, resigned from his position as the chairman of the campaign committee in Jammu and Kashmir. His resignation came shortly after that.
Anand Sharma, who initially ran for office in the 1982 assembly elections, was handed a Rajya Sabha ticket by the then-prime minister Indira Gandhi in 1984. Since then, he has been a member of the Rajya Sabha and has handled a number of significant roles within the party.
