Udaipur: The ninth suspect has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the brutal daylight murder of Khanhaiyya Lal Teli, a tailor from Udaipur, Rajasthan, in June.
The NIA announced on Friday that a 41-year-old man Muslim Khan, a resident of Rajasthan’s Pratap Garh area, was detained on August 10 for his “active role in the conspiracy.” So far eight accused people had already been detained.
The case relates to the murder of Kanhaiyya Lal Teli, a 47-year-old man, who was killed on June 28 at his shop in Udaipur’s Matildas Street. According to reports, the deceased was assassinated because he had shared a social media post supporting Nupur Sharma, a former BJP politician who had made offensive remarks about the Prophet Mohammad. The brutal murder occurred on June 28 (Tuesday) between 3 and 3:30 pm. On June 29, the MHA’s counterterrorism and counter-radicalization division (CTCR) issued an order that allowed the NIA to get the victims’ details.
Riyaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, the two main murderers in the case, were apprehended on June 29 by Rajasthan Police and then by NIA as part of the inquiry. The two suspects were both Udaipur residents and released a video on social media shortly after murdering the man, boasting about the “beheading” and threatening the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
