The Indian contingent on Day 9th was assured of its first medal as boxer Nitu clinches a berth in the finals. Aggressive Nitu progressing into the final staged a fierce show against Canada’s Priyanka Dhillon in the minimumweight starts. Men’s Single Achanta Sharath Kamal named himself a win defeating Singapore Yong Izaac Quek to enter the Semis.

Another woman Batallion of the TT- defeated Wales making way to the Quarterfinals. Shukla Sreeja/Reeth Tennison defeated the Wales women at 3-0. In the same event, India’s Manima Batra and Diya Parag Chitale defeated Mauritius at the same score.

It rained gold on Day 8th of the CWG 2022 after Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Deepak Punia all defeated their opponents mercilessly. Starting with Bajrang Punia, India got its first gold for wrestling in CWG2022 as he took down Canada’s Lachlan McNeil in the men’s 65kgs freestyle wrestling final.

Next in the series was the 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik who outclassed Canada’s Ana Gonzalez in the women’s 62 kg. The cherry on the top was added by Deepak Punia who bought India unparalleled victory beating Pakistan’s Muhammad Inam in the mens’ 86 kg event.
