Kerala: A traveller from UAE has tested positive for Monkeypox, officials said taking the total count of Monkeypox cases in the state to 5.
In a media interaction on Tuesday, State Health minister Veena George said “A 30-year-old man presently under treatment in Malappuram has tested positive for the virus. He arrived from the UAE on July 27 at the Kozhikode airport. His contacts which included his parents and two of his friends have been isolated.
The 5th patient who reached Khozikode on July 27th began presenting symptoms and was tested for the zoonotic disease. He is currently being treated at a private hospital in Malappuram.
The state recorded one death out of the four previously tested positive. One recuperated completely and two others are convalescing and are stable. The State health authorities have confirmed that around 10 people including the family members of the deceased were the close contact of the22 year from Thrissur, the first patient to succumb to the disease in India.
At present, India has recorded 7 cases so far of which one was reported from the national capital yesterdy in a Nigerian man with no travel history.
