Mumbai: The Indian currency at the inter forex trade today registered its biggest single-day hike in nearly a year on Friday. Closing at 79.24 against the greenback currency, the domestic unit rise was aided by a sharp reversal in the dollar.

The Indian currency opened strong at 79.55 per dollar and hovered between 79.56 to 79.17, its strongest since July 7- during the session on Friday. Finally settling at 79.24 the Rupee gained 45 paise over its last close.

In the previous session, the rupee appreciated by 22 paise closing near 79.69 against one dollar.
