Dakshin, Kannada: A tense situation prevailed in Sullia on Wednesday as the body of the youth leader of the BJP was brought to his residence. Praveen Nettaru was hacked to death on Tuesday evening by unknown bike-borne assailants in Karnataka’s Dakshin Kannada. All establishments and Hotels were shut down amidst protests. A bandh was also called by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

Thousands of angst locals followed the ambulance that carried Nettaru’s body. Local authorities made elaborate arrangements to make way for the convoy. Security has been heightened in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, with the deployment of additional forces to ensure law and order.

As per sources, the murderers might have conspired to avenge the killing of Muslim youth who was allegedly attacked by saffron outfits last week. As of now, there has been no breakthrough development in nabbing the assistants. A team of four has been constituted to nab the assailants, Dakshina Kannada Rural district Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Bhagawan Sonawane said in a media interaction.

Condemning the act, the Karnataka CM took to his Twitter handle to extend condolence to the family. “The barbaric killing of party activist Praveen Nettaru from Sullia, Dakshina Kannada, is condemnable. The perpetrators of such a heinous act will be arrested soon and punished under the law. May Praveen’s soul rest in peace, may god bless his family with the strength to bear this pain,” he wrote in Kannada.
