New Delhi: The Delhi Government on Saturday, has decided that Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital will be made the nodal centre for the management of monkey pox in the country. The training of doctors to curb this challenging virus has already been started, a senior health department official0ⁿⁿ0time where the country has already reported its first monkey pox case in Kerala. LNJP Hospital was also the centre health care unit during the COVID- 19 breakout two years ago. The hospital is equipped with around 2000 beds and good medical facilities.

A senior doctor at LNJP said on Saturday, that the experience of managing COVID-19 will surely help them tackle this virus as well. The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have already been issued to the doctors and their training is underway for the management of monkey pox. Isolation facility for confirmed and suspected cases will also be arranged at the hospital.

Meanwhile, as per World Health Organisation (WHO), symptoms in monkey pox are similar to that in small pox and it is a viral zoonosis. The Central Government has issued guidelines to all the State Health authorities to go for proper screening and monitoring of suspected cases.
