Madhya Pradesh: The first phase of urban body elections in Madhya Pradesh are going to start from July 6. Amidst this high time, electricity is not showing positive sign for the locals and Election Commission (EC) officials. There has been a power cut at the EC headquarters since morning as a reason of which officials and workers are finding it hard to prepare effectively for tomorrow’s poll battle.

The officials, in the absence of electricity called for a private generator at their office but it went in vain as it was not started due to a technical glitch by 2 PM. The headquarters’ transformer and generator are not working at all. Some of the employees are using inverters in their cabins to complete their work.

Meanwhile, the State EC Secretary Rakesh Singh issued instructions to all the three Electricity Supplying Companies on Monday only that power supply is necessary for carrying out all necessary work for the upcoming elections. The Managing Directors of all the three companies were informed before hand only about the elections but it didn’t work out in the interest of EC.

A total of 13,148 polling booths have been set up for the first phase of civic body elections. Second phase is scheduled on July 13 while the results will be out on July 17.
