Bhopal: The wife of former dacoit Malkhan Singh, Lalita Rajput got elected as the sarpanch of the Sungayayi village in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district. Though the panchayat elections in Madhya Pradesh will be held in three phases starting June 25, Lalita Rajput, Mr Singh’s wife, has been elected unopposed.

Malkhan Singh, known as India’s bandit king hails from Bhind but now resides in Sungayayi, Guna. His gang surrendered in 1982 before the then MP Chief Minister Arjun Singh. Prior to his surrender, there were around 94 police cases filed against him including 18 dacoities, 28 kidnapping cases and 17 murder charges.

Lalita is the second wife of Malkhan Singh. Lalita in her speech after winning thanked the villagers and promised to work towards the development of the village.

Panchayat Elections in MP are scheduled to begin on June 25th and be held in three phases The counting will take place on July 8,11, 14 and 15 for different posts from Panch to District Panchayat members.
