New Delhi: India recorded 2,022 fresh infections in the past 24 hours taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,31,38,393.The number of active cases dipped to 14,832 accounting for 0.03 per cent of the total number of cases. A drop of 123 cases was reported in the last 24 hours.

The recovery rate at 98.75 per cent accounted for 2,099 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 4,25,99,102. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.69 per cent.

However, the mortality rate stood at 1.22 per cent recorded 46 virus related fatalities taking the cumulative death toll to 5,24,459.

With the administration of 1.92 lakh vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 192.38 crore according to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

On Sunday, following the re-outbreak of Covid-19 and the rapid surge in the number of daily Covid infections over the past few weeks, Saudi Arabia has banned its citizens from traveling to sixteen countries, including India.

Meanwhile, the INSACOG confirmed the presence of presence of the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron sub-variants of the coronavirus in Tamil Nadu and Telangana. In a statement on Sunday, the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) said a 19-year-old woman in Tamil Nadu has been found infected with the BA.4 sub-variant of the virus.
