Karnataka: Two labourers died while many houses flooded following heavy rains in Bengaluru on late Tuesday. State CM Basvaraj Bommai has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of the deceased and Rs 25,000 each for the houses damaged. The labourers identified as Dev Vikrant and Ankit Kumar drowned inside a pipeline where they were laying as the water levels suddenly rose.

Karnataka on Wednesday received a heavy downpour, resulting in waterlogging and traffic snarls in several parts of the city. According to IMD, the state will witness widespread rainfall in the coming two to three days.
The IMD in a tweet today also confirmed the information. It read, “Isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Kerala-Mahe, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka on 19th and over Tamil Nadu on 18th with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over Kerala-Mahe, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka on today, the 18th May.”
On Monday, it declared the onset of monsoon over the Andaman Sea. This year, the early monsoon has been attributed to Cyclone Asani which brought in plenty of moisture over the region.
Its daily bulletin on Monday, it said that the Southwest monsoon winds are all set to strengthen over these regions in the coming days, and the islands will experience rainfall.
