WORLD: After a period of around 4 months of its origin in Wuhan, the Corona virus Covid-19 has globally infected more than 3.6 million people & killed about 252,000 people. With 53,805 fresh cases & 2,266 deaths reported on Monday, the tally of total confirmed cases has reached at 3,646,494 ; out of which 2,193,025 cases are active. The death toll is at 252,425 with 1,200,257 recovered patients.
Majority of countries across the globe have been in a long lockdown since this pandemic took over the planet. Many countries still continue to do so because of the rising infection while some of the countries have provided certain relaxation against the restrictions imposed during lockdown. Meanwhile, no positive results have been shown by such countries in the first week of the reopening.
The US has 1,212,900 million infected patients with more than 69,000 deaths. According to the latest data, 12,672 new cases & 1015 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours. The US continues to stand at the topmost position of highest confirmed cases, deaths, new cases reported as well as new deaths everyday. However, this is the lowest increase in death rate that the US has recorded in the last few weeks.
President Trump now says that deaths due to COVID-19 in the US might approach 100,000 which seems to reach by the next month. According to a study of the documents obtained by The New York Times it is predicted that The United States could see up to 3,000 deaths per day from the coronavirus by June as the economy reopens in the country.
Spain, with the second highest number of cases i.e. 248,301 & 25,428 deaths, has detected 1179 new cases & 164 fresh deaths on Monday.
Italy stands at third place in the number of cases while at second in the fatalities reported in the country. There are 211,938 confirmed cases with 29,079 deaths.
From Monday, Italy has started to gradually reopen after nearly 2 months of a lockdown that was imposed since March 11, the first and longest in Europe. However, the emergency adviser of the Minister of Health of Italy, Ricciardi has warned saying that, “It’s not over. If the infections rise, in 2 weeks we will have to close again.”
India too restarted on Monday with certain relaxations amid the lockdown. However, the citizens being completely careless forgetting all about social distancing took to roads to venture out. The irresponsible behaviour has shown a surge in cases as well as deaths in the last 24 hours in India, which was till now controlling the virus efficiently, far better than other nations.
With 3,985 new cases & 288 fatalities,the highest in Europe, the UK seems in the grip of the virus, causing major loss of lives. Total fatalities reported are 28,734, the third highest in the World.

After a few isolated cases detected in late January, the outbreak in Italy started on Feb 21. On February 22, as Italy had already become the country with the highest number of cases among all non-Asian nations. 11 towns and areas affected by the outbreak were placed in lockdown. A country-wide lockdown was implemented after 19 days, on March 11, when 827 deaths had already been reported.
