New Delhi: The Delhi Unit of BJP held massive protests outside CM Kejriwals residence demanding reduction of VAT on feul. The protest stemmed from the recent remark given by PM Modi during his review meeting on health situation amidts the uptick in COVID-19 cases.
Despite not being on the list ranked by PM, state BJP president Adesh Gupta who witnessed the protest said- When other states and UTs can reduce VAT (on diesel), why is the Delhi government not doing so? Why don’t you (Kejriwal) want to take any concrete step to give relief to the people of Delhi?
The politician also tweeted out pictures of the protest, tagging the Aam Aadmi Party convenor. Visuals shared from the scene of the protest showed a large group of individuals being held back by barricades, with a group of uniformed officials on the other side. Many can be seen holding posters and placards to register their objections.
According to PM Modi, around 25 states – mostly ruled by the BJP – had followed suit, correspondingly reducing VAT on petrol and diesel to give relief to consumers.
However, states like “Maharashtra, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu did not follow the advice of Central Government and people in these states are burdened with price rise. I request these states to do now what they should have done in November. By reducing the VAT you can lower the burden faced by the residents,” PM Modi had said.
