New Delhi: According to an observation by the IMD, the national capital on 29th April recorded the hottest day in 72 years. Temperatures around 46 degrees Celsius were recorded, which according to the weather department, is likely to drop after May 2.
Delhi recorded 2nd hottest April in 72 years with an average monthly maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
“Heatwave conditions in some parts very likely over West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and in isolated places over Jammu, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, western parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Telangana and interior Odisha,” the IMD said in a bulletin issued at 8:30 am.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) around 9 am was 304, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).
The national capital a day before recorded a maximum temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius, which was the highest in12 years.
Sweltering temperatures have been recorded through vast swathes of the country. Alerts have been issued by the weather watchdog to states in the central and northern region.
