Left hand opening batsman, Shikar Dhawan player fo Punjab Kings, on Friday scripted history to be the first Indian complete 1,000 boundaries in T20 cricket. Globally, he is ranked fifth, as he joined the elite list inlcuding West Indies great Chris Gayle.

Dhawan opened with an inside edge agaisnt Gujarat Titans that chose to bowl.

Playing his 307th T20, at at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, seamlessly took the attack to Lockie Ferguson in the Gujarat Titans pacer’s first over achieve the feat.The opening batsman left the previous IPL Match on March 16, at cliffhanger needing only 3 more boundaries to set the benchmark.

Debuting in 2007, in the shortest format for Delhi, Dhawan has scored more than 8850 runs in T20 cricket in a career that has spanned over 15 overs, while his India debut in T20Is came in 2011.The 36 year old has scored 1759 runs in 68 T20Is for India while scoring the bulk of his T20 runs in the IPL.

The left-handed opener has scored more than 5880 runs in the IPL, only behind Virat Kohli who tops the charts with 6341 runs. Dhawan tops the list for the most boundaries scored in the premier T20 league, smashing more than 665 boundaries.
