Opening day 2 of the ongoing Test against Sri Lanka Jadeja broke the long-standing Kapil Dev’s record of 175 run knock in Test series. Indian all-rounder Ravinder Jadeja remained unbeaten on a career-best 175 as India at IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali declared their first innings closed on 574 for eight against Sri Lanka.

Jadeja crossed Kapil Dev, who had scored 163 against Sri Lanka in Kanpur in 1986 while batting at No.7. Jadeja joined the elite list headed by Kapil Dev and Rishabh Pant. Kapil Dev scored 163 against the same opponent back in 1986 in Kanpur when India posted a mammoth 676/6 declared at the Eden Gardens. Jadeja also became the first cricketer to be involved in 300 plus partnerships in an inning while batting at No. 7 or below.

Notably, Jadega’s win came as a tribute to the Australian legend who named him a ‘Rockstar’ in 2008. He is one of the only three batters from the country who crossed 150 batting at 7 or below in Tests.

Other than Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin also shined on the crease. He crossed the fifty-run mark in the match. He took 67 deliveries to score 50 runs. It is his 12th 50 in Test cricket.

India, which chose to bat closed the first innings on 574 for eight.
