DELHI: On Saturday, Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association wrote a letter to Dr Harsh Vardhan, the Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare over accommodation facilities for resident doctors advised for home quarantine.

The letter stated that many resident doctors from various hospitals have been tested positive for Covid-19. Consequently, the primary contacts of the doctors mainly their colleagues i.e. other resident doctors have been advised to self quarantine themselves at their homes.

It further mentioned that quarantining at their homes for the doctors could become a cause of transmission to their family members leading to a worse condition. The doctors residing at hostels share the washroom and the mess, which could also lead to mass transmission of the virus. Therefore, to avoid further spread and as a preventive measure to  break the chain, it is important to provide accommodation and other facilities to the resident doctors at some other place till the results of their tests are out.

Earlier this week, the resident doctors have been demanding a hike in their stipend due to their hectic schedule amid the battle against the virus. The Chief Minister of Punjab, Capt.Amarinder Singh took to his twitter to announce that his government has decided to increase the stipend for MBBS interns from Rs. 9000 to Rs. 15,000 per month.
