Bilaspur: Jitendra Mudaliar, son of late Uday Mudaliar, had filed a case in the year 2020 at Darbha police station alleging murder and conspiracy in the Jhiram Ghati massacre. This case was challenged by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the special court of Jagdalpur. There was also a demand to hand over the case to the NIA, but the special court rejected the application. Against this decision, the NIA had filed a petition in the Bilaspur High Court. During the preliminary hearing, the High Court had stayed the investigation of this case. After this, the hearing of the case was pending.
The state government was not able to initiate the investigation. Now the Bilaspur High Court has ruled and dismissed the appeal of the NIA. The investigating agency of the state government is free to investigate. On February 08th, the Additional Solicitor General of the Supreme Court Vikramjit Banerjee argued on behalf of the NIA. Referring to the NIA Act, he said that the state government does not have the right to investigate the matter, which has been investigated by the NIA.
The NIA requested for a stay on the second FIR lodged by Darbha police station on the Jhiram Valley attack and to hand over the investigation to the NIA itself. After this, the side was also kept from the side of the government. After hearing both sides, the court had reserved the decision, on which the decision has come today.
Jhiram Naxalite attack took place on May 25th 2013. In this massacre, 29 people including then state Congress President Nandkumar Patel, former Union Minister Vidyacharan Shukla, Bastar Tiger Mahendra Karma and security forces were killed. More than 20 Congress leaders were killed in this. It is said that after the end of the rally in Bastar, the convoy of Congress leaders was going from Sukma to Jagdalpur. There were about 25 vehicles in the convoy. In which about 200 leaders were on board.
