Ujjain: The Madhya Pradesh Govt on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, scripted itself in the Guinness world record for holding the largest display of earthen lamps in temple town Ujjain. Ujjain, on Tuesday, was lit up by more than 11.71 lakh lamps.
The city administration for this Maha Shivratri had ensured that the event was eco-friendly and achieved a ‘zero waste’ goal, officials claimed. As many as 11, 71,078 that sparkled at the Ramghat and Dutt Akhara Ghat were lit by children and elders who participated in the ‘Shiv Jyoti Arpanam Mahotsav’. As per reports,13 lakh workers lit up the lamps in a span of just 10 minutes after the siren went off. Apart from these, another 51,000 lamps were lit in Mahakaleshwar temple, 11,000 in Mangalnath temple, 10,000 at Kalbhairav temple and ghat, 1100 in Gadkalika temple, 6,000 at Siddhavat temple and ghat, and 5,000 in Harsiddhi temple.
The state government’s cultural department hosted a grand event called ‘Shiv Jyoti Arpanam’ which was graced by CM Chouhan. Taking to Twitter, Chauhan wrote “You have not only created a record by lighting 11,71,878 lamps, but also written the history of this holy occasion in golden letters,” and shared an image receiving the certificate from Nischal Borat, one of the members of the record office.
Guinness World Records had sent a five-member team to Ujjain to judge the world record bid. The state outclassed Ayodhya which lit 9.41 lakh earthen lamps last year.
